From metro Atlanta and Savannah to Augusta, Macon, Columbus, Athens and the North Georgia mountains, you can order from JCM Armory’s catalog and collect your firearm at a Georgia dealer close to home. How buying a gun online works in Georgia
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Georgia dealer at checkout. Georgia has transfer dealers in nearly every county, from big-box sporting goods stores to small shops; call ahead for their fee and hours.
- We ship to your FFL. Once your dealer’s license is on file, we ship the firearm directly to them. Firearms are never shipped to a home address.
- NICS check and pickup. Show ID, fill out ATF Form 4473, and your dealer runs the FBI NICS check. When you’re approved, the firearm is yours.
What to know about firearm transfers in Georgia
Federal dealer age limits apply: at least 21 for a handgun and at least 18 for a rifle or shotgun. Georgia is not a “point of contact” state, so dealers run background checks directly through the FBI’s NICS system.
Georgia has no state permit-to-purchase or firearm registration, and state law (O.C.G.A. 16-11-173) reserves most firearm regulation to the state rather than cities and counties. A Georgia weapons carry license is optional and is not needed to buy a gun.
New to Georgia? Federal law lets you buy a handgun only in your state of residence. If your driver’s license still shows an out-of-state or old address, ask your dealer which government-issued document (such as a vehicle registration or property tax record) they accept as proof of your current Georgia address. Georgia’s 2022 Constitutional Carry Act also made a weapons carry license optional for lawful carriers, though many Georgians still get one for travel to other states.
Buyers are responsible for knowing and following federal, state and local law. Laws change, so confirm anything specific with your Georgia dealer. This page is general information, not legal advice. Last reviewed: October 2026.

Before you order in Georgia
The Georgia Weapons Carry License is issued by the probate judge in your county, and even though it isn’t needed to buy, some buyers like to have it for travel to states that honor it. Buyers in Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Macon, Columbus and Athens can choose from many dealers, and those in the Okefenokee or the North Georgia mountains may want to confirm hours first. Whitetail hunters should check the Wildlife Resources Division of Georgia DNR for firearms deer season dates and wildlife management area quota hunts before ordering a new rifle. Georgia has no state waiting period, so pickup normally happens as soon as the NICS check is complete.
Buying a suppressor? Our Georgia silencer guide covers Georgia law, hunting with a suppressor and your Form 4473 or voluntary $0 Form 4 options. Pair your suppressor with subsonic ammo.
