Georgia: state law still references NFA registration

Georgia’s exemption (O.C.G.A. §16-11-124) is written around NFA registration. Federally, a suppressor now transfers on a Form 4473 with a NICS check, with no Form 4 approval and no tax stamp (ATF policy since October 9, 2026). But because Georgia law points back to the NFA, we recommend Georgia buyers file the voluntary $0 Form 4 through JCM so the suppressor is registered. Ask us or your FFL before choosing the 4473-only option. Shop suppressors →

Georgia hunters and sport shooters have embraced suppressors, from deer stands in middle Georgia to hog hunts in the south. JCM Armory ships to Georgia FFLs statewide.

Are silencers legal in Georgia?

Yes, if registered. O.C.G.A. §16-11-122 bans possession of a silencer except as allowed by §16-11-124, and §16-11-124(4) exempts a person who "has registered the … silencer in accordance with the dictates of the National Firearms Act."

Can you hunt with a silencer in Georgia?

Yes, with location limits. Under O.C.G.A. §27-3-4(a)(8), as published for July 1, 2026, suppressor hunting is allowed on your own private property, on private property with the owner's verifiable permission, and on public lands in areas the DNR designates. Georgia's hunting rules (Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 391-4-2) allow suppressed firearms on WMAs.

What Georgia buyers should know

Georgia's exemption is written around NFA registration, so we strongly suggest Georgia buyers file the voluntary $0 Form 4 through JCM. That puts your silencer in the federal registry the Georgia statute refers to.

How buying a silencer from JCM Armory works

Since October 9, 2026, ATF does not enforce Form 4 approval or registration for suppressors. At JCM you pick one of two options (full details in our How to Buy a Silencer Online guide):

Our recommendation for Georgia: Option 2, the voluntary $0 Form 4, because Georgia law ties silencer ownership to federal registration or compliance.
