From Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin to El Paso, the Rio Grande Valley and the Panhandle, Texans can order from JCM Armory’s catalog and collect their firearm at a licensed dealer near home. We’re a federally licensed dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship firearms to local FFLs in 49 states (we do not ship to California). Texas customers complete the transfer at the Texas FFL they pick.
How buying a gun online works in Texas
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Texas dealer at checkout. Texas has a large network of gun shops, ranch-supply stores, pawn shops and home-based FFLs that accept transfers. Compare transfer fees and hours before you choose one.
- We ship to your FFL. Once your dealer’s license is on file, we ship the firearm directly to them. Firearms are never shipped to a home address.
- Complete the transfer. At the counter you’ll show a valid ID, complete ATF Form 4473 and pass an FBI NICS background check. Texas dealers contact the FBI directly. Once you’re approved, check the firearm and take it home.
What to know about firearm transfers in Texas
Federal law sets the dealer purchase ages that apply in Texas: at least 21 for a handgun and at least 18 for a rifle or shotgun. Texas is not a “point of contact” state, so every dealer background check goes through the FBI’s NICS system.
Texas does not have a state permit-to-purchase or state firearm registration. Under Texas Local Government Code 229.001, cities may not adopt their own rules on the transfer, ownership, licensing or registration of firearms and ammunition, so the same rules apply in Houston as in a small county seat. A Texas License to Carry is a separate, optional license for carrying a handgun; it is not needed to buy one.
Buyers are responsible for knowing and following federal, state and local law. Laws change, so confirm anything specific with your Texas dealer. This page is general information, not legal advice. Last reviewed: October 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Can a gun I buy online be shipped to my home in Texas?
No. Firearms only ship to a licensed FFL dealer, where you complete the paperwork and background check before taking it home.
Do I need a License to Carry to buy a gun in Texas?
No. Texas does not require a permit to purchase. The License to Carry is optional and is used for carrying a handgun, not for buying one.
Is there a waiting period in Texas?
Texas has no state waiting period. Once your NICS check is approved, the dealer can complete the transfer. A delayed NICS response can slow things down.
