Transfers

We offer firearm transfers at our (home) Joppatowne location at a rate of $25 dollars for non-NFA, and $50 for NFA items. However, there is an additional $10 fee that the Maryland Government charges for each background check for non-NFA items. For NFA items, there is a $25 dollar ATF paperwork fee. These are separate from our transfer fee. 

(All items purchased directly from JCMArmory.com are ALWAYS free transfers, excluding the $10 background check for normal firearms, and $25 government costs for NFA items)

How does a transfer go down?

It’s nice and simple to do a gun transfer (after you’ve done the homework on legality of a firearm in your location).

But that is the caveat. You need to verify if a firearm is indeed legal to own in your state before ordering. While some firearms may outright say which states they are not legal in, it is not guaranteed to be listed in a product’s data. You must verify your local and state laws before purchasing a firearm. Your FFL, whether it is JCM Armory or not, will be checking the legality before beginning a transfer.

If you purchase a firearm here from JCM Armory, the firearm destination legality is verified for Maryland ONLY before the order is confirmed. So if you live in Maryland and order a non-MD legal gun from JCM Armory, your order will be cancelled before any shipping occurs.

For other scenarios, your weapon will generally ship before the FFL from your state can verify that it is legal there. FFLs from any given state know federal gun laws in addition to their state’s gun laws.

The result is that a gun received by an FFL that is not legal in your state will need to be shipped right back to the seller at your expense. In addition, the seller is almost certain to charge a restocking fee of some kind. The restocking fee will most often be a sizeable portion of the firearms original cost. Sometimes upwards of 20% of what you paid. That is why you should always confirm if you are allowed to own a given firearm before placing an order.

All firearms sold from an FFL other than JCM Armory are welcome to be sent to JCM Armory for a background check and final transfer to you. All that is needed from the seller is their FFL License. This can be provided as a printed sheet with the weapon, or via email to [email protected].
