Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Wheeling, Beckley or the Eastern Panhandle: West Virginia buyers can order from JCM Armory’s online catalog and pick up at a local dealer. As a federal firearms licensee in Joppa, Maryland, we ship guns to licensed dealers in 49 states; California is the one exception. In the Mountain State, many families still treat the opening day of buck season like a holiday, and handy deer rifles, slugs and small-game guns are popular across the state.

How buying a gun online works in West Virginia

  1. Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed West Virginia dealer at checkout. West Virginia dealers accept transfers statewide; ask about their fee.
  2. Direct to the FFL. With your dealer’s license on file, the firearm ships to them. We do not deliver firearms to homes.
  3. Paperwork and pickup. At the counter you’ll show ID and fill out ATF Form 4473, and your West Virginia dealer runs the background check. When it comes back approved, the gun is yours.

What to know about firearm transfers in West Virginia

Under federal rules, a licensed dealer can’t sell a handgun to anyone under 21 or a long gun to anyone under 18. West Virginia dealers run checks through the FBI’s NICS, because the state doesn’t act as its own point of contact.

No West Virginia permit is required to purchase, and the state keeps no firearm registration.

Eastern Panhandle buyers. If you live in West Virginia but commute to Maryland or Virginia, use a West Virginia dealer for a handgun. Federal law ties handgun transfers to your state of residence.

Squirrel and small-game guns

Small-game hunting is a strong tradition in West Virginia. A .22 LR rifle with a quality scope or a light 20-gauge shotgun is ideal for squirrel and rabbit in the hardwoods. These guns are also great for teaching new shooters basic marksmanship.

Popular categories for West Virginia hunters

West Virginia seasons are set by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR). Check the current hunting regulations before you hunt.

Mountain deer rifles

West Virginia deer hunting often means steep, wooded hollows and short to medium shots. A handy bolt-action or lever-action in a proven deer cartridge, with a low-power variable scope, is easier to carry up a ridge than a heavy long-range rig.
