Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, St. George, Logan, Park City or the Uintah Basin: Utah buyers can order from JCM Armory’s online catalog and pick up at a local dealer. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) based in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). Utah’s mix of desert ranges, high mountain hunts and a large competitive shooting community means Utah shooters use everything from carry pistols to precision rifles.
How buying a gun online works in Utah
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Utah dealer at checkout. Utah has many FFLs along the Wasatch Front; confirm their fee and hours.
- Off to your dealer. We keep your FFL’s license on file and ship the firearm to their address. Home delivery of firearms isn’t an option.
- Paperwork and pickup. At the counter you’ll show ID and fill out ATF Form 4473, and your Utah dealer runs the background check. A valid Utah concealed firearm permit may qualify as an alternative to the background check under ATF rules. When it comes back approved, the gun is yours.
What to know about firearm transfers in Utah
Dealer age limits come from federal law: handgun buyers must be 21, long-gun buyers 18.
State background check. Utah is a full point-of-contact state. Dealers run checks through the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) rather than calling the FBI directly.
Utah doesn’t require a permit to buy a firearm, and it doesn’t register guns.
Gun laws differ by state and city and can change. You are responsible for following all federal, state and local laws, and your Utah dealer can help with specifics. This overview isn’t legal advice. Last reviewed: October 2026.
Shipping and fees
- Guns at $300 or above: shipping is on us.
- Ammunition: we cover shipping when your ammo adds up to $750 or more.
- Below those amounts, it’s a single $15 flat rate, and firearms travel separately from ammo.
- Powder or primers in your order add a $40 hazmat surcharge, set by the carriers.
- Your Utah dealer’s transfer fee is separate and paid at their counter.
Concealed carry and permits
Utah issues a concealed firearm permit that many residents and non-residents carry for reciprocity with other states. Under ATF rules, a valid Utah permit can qualify as an alternative to the background check for dealer purchases. Ask your dealer how they process it before you count on it.
What Utah customers shop for
- Bolt-action rifles for elk and mule deer
- Long-range optics
- Semi-auto pistols and holsters
- AR rifles
- Shotguns for chukar and waterfowl
- Reloading supplies
Utah big game permits are mostly issued by draw through the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR). Check DWR’s current guidebooks and application deadlines.
High-altitude hunting
Utah hunts can climb well above 10,000 feet. Bullets fly a little flatter in thin air, so confirm your drop data at the elevation you’ll hunt if you can. A lightweight rifle and a good pack matter, since you’ll be carrying both up steep country.
Before you order in Utah
Utah buyers heading into the Wasatch or the Uintas for elk often want a rifle, scope and ammunition together. Order the rifle first so the transfer can be done before your trip, then add optics and ammo, which ship separately. Plan around your dealer’s hours if you live far from Salt Lake, St. George or Logan. Shooters on public BLM land in the west desert can find target ammunition in bulk in our ammo department.
