JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). How buying a gun online works in New Jersey

  1. Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed New Jersey dealer at checkout. Have your FPIC or handgun purchase permit approved before you order.
  2. Your FFL receives it. Once we’ve verified your dealer’s license, we ship the gun to their store. We never send firearms to a customer’s home.
  3. Permit check and pickup. Show your ID and your FPIC (long guns) or Permit to Purchase a Handgun, complete ATF Form 4473, and the dealer runs the New Jersey State Police check before transfer.

What to know about firearm transfers in New Jersey

Rifles and shotguns need an FPIC. New Jersey requires a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (FPIC) to buy a rifle or shotgun.

Handguns need a permit for each purchase. Under N.J.S.A. 2C:58-3, a separate Permit to Purchase a Handgun is required for each handgun. Apply through the New Jersey State Police Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS).

State background check. New Jersey is a full point-of-contact state; the New Jersey State Police run dealer checks.

Assault firearm and 10-round magazine law. New Jersey bans firearms it defines as “assault firearms” and magazines over 10 rounds. The full Third Circuit ruled against both laws on July 17, 2026, but on August 4 it put its own ruling on hold while New Jersey asks the U.S. Supreme Court to review it, so both laws are still enforced today. Treat them as in force: we can’t ship covered firearms or magazines over 10 rounds to New Jersey. This law is being challenged in court and may change; we follow the stricter rule until it’s settled. Ask us before ordering.

This is general information, not legal advice. Following federal, state and local law is the buyer’s responsibility, and the rules can change. Your New Jersey dealer is a good first stop for questions. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in New Jersey; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits.
