Wichita, Overland Park, Kansas City, Topeka, Olathe, Lawrence or the western wheat country: Kansas buyers can order from JCM Armory’s online catalog and pick up at a local dealer. As a federal firearms licensee in Joppa, Maryland, we ship guns to licensed dealers in 49 states; California is the one exception. Kansas shooting tends to follow the seasons: shotguns and shells before the November pheasant opener, deer rifles in late fall, and AR-pattern rifles and optics for winter coyote calling.

How buying a gun online works in Kansas

  1. Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Kansas dealer at checkout. Kansas dealers accept transfers statewide; confirm their fee first.
  2. Direct to the FFL. With your dealer’s license on file, the firearm ships to them. We do not deliver firearms to homes.
  3. Paperwork and pickup. At the counter you’ll show ID and fill out ATF Form 4473, and your Kansas dealer runs the background check. When it comes back approved, the gun is yours.

What to know about firearm transfers in Kansas

The federal minimums apply at the dealer: 21 and up for handguns, 18 and up for rifles and shotguns. Kansas dealers’ background checks go straight to the FBI’s NICS system; there’s no separate state check.

Buying in Kansas doesn’t involve a state permit or registration.

Kansas City metro. If you live on the Kansas side of the metro, use a Kansas dealer for a handgun. Federal law ties handgun transfers to your state of residence.

Shipping and fees

Coyote rifles

Kansas coyote hunting often involves long, open shots and calling over pasture. A flat-shooting AR in .223 or a 6mm-class cartridge with a magnified optic is a popular setup. Thermal and night-vision gear have their own rules, so check KDWP’s regulations before hunting at night.

What Kansas customers shop for

Kansas seasons and permits are set by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP). Check its current regulations summary before you hunt.

Upland bird guns

Walking Kansas CRP fields for pheasant and quail means carrying your shotgun all day. A lighter 20-gauge or 12-gauge with a modified or improved-cylinder choke is a solid all-around choice. Fit matters more than brand: the gun should come up to your cheek and shoulder the same way every time.

Before you order in Kansas

Kansas pheasant season opens in early November and the regular firearm deer season comes in early December, both set by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP). Order early if you’re replacing an upland shotgun or deer rifle. Buyers in Wichita, Topeka, Overland Park, Olathe, Lawrence and Manhattan have dealers nearby, and soldiers at Fort Riley can buy with orders showing their Kansas duty station. Kansas has allowed permitless carry since 2015, but the concealed carry license from the Kansas Attorney General’s office is still worth having if you travel to states that require one.

Frequently asked questions

Can Missouri residents use a Kansas dealer?

For a handgun, no. Federal law requires the transfer to happen in your state of residence, so Missouri residents should use a Missouri dealer. Long-gun rules for out-of-state buyers are stricter and depend on both states’ laws, so ask the dealer.

Do I need a permit to buy a gun in Kansas?

No. There’s no Kansas purchase permit. Just the federal Form 4473 and NICS check at your dealer.

Can a gun be shipped to my house in Kansas?

No. You’ll choose a local dealer at checkout; the gun ships there, and you pick it up after the paperwork.

What will I pay for shipping?

Nothing on firearms of $300 or more, and nothing on ammo once you reach $750 in ammunition. Otherwise shipping is $15 flat, plus $40 hazmat on powder or primers.

Do you ship to every state?

We ship firearms to local FFL dealers in 49 states. We do not ship to California.
