Honolulu, Hilo, Kailua-Kona, Kahului, Lihue or anywhere in the islands: Hawaii buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a licensed dealer near them. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). Hawaii has some of the more detailed firearm rules in the country, so please read this page, and check with your dealer, before you order.

How buying a gun online works in Hawaii

  1. Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Hawaii dealer at checkout. Start your permit to acquire with your county police department before you order.
  2. Direct to the FFL. With your dealer’s license on file, the firearm ships to them. We do not deliver firearms to homes.
  3. Permit, registration and pickup. Present your county permit to acquire, complete ATF Form 4473, and register the firearm with your county police after you receive it.

What to know about firearm transfers in Hawaii

Permit to acquire. Hawaii requires a permit to acquire from your county police chief. For handguns, each acquisition needs its own permit, which can’t be issued sooner than 14 calendar days after you apply (and must be issued or denied by day 40), and under HRS 134-2 must be used within 30 days. Long-gun permits are valid for one year and cover multiple purchases. Applicants need a firearms safety course taken within the past four years, and the Hawaii Police Department also requires a hunter education card for a long-gun permit.

Registration. Firearms must be registered with your county police department after you acquire them.

Other limits. Hawaii bans the sale of pistols it defines as “assault pistols” and of handgun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Please treat this page as general information only. It is not legal advice. Each buyer must comply with federal, state and local law, and laws change over time. Check with your Hawaii FFL on anything specific. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in Hawaii; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits. Before you order in Hawaii

Hawaii timing deserves extra planning. Because a handgun permit takes 14 to 40 days to be issued and must be used within 30 days after that, coordinate with your dealer so the firearm arrives inside that window. Long-gun permits last a year and can cover multiple purchases. After pickup, take the firearm to your county police for registration within the time the law allows. Island shipping adds transit time, so confirm your dealer’s receiving schedule before you check out.
