Arizona: state law still references NFA registration

Arizona’s exemption for suppressors (A.R.S. §13-3101(B)) depends on compliance with federal law. Federally, a suppressor now transfers on a Form 4473 with a NICS check, with no Form 4 approval and no tax stamp (ATF policy since October 9, 2026). But because Arizona law points back to the NFA, we recommend Arizona buyers file the voluntary $0 Form 4 through JCM so the suppressor is registered. Ask us or your FFL before choosing the 4473-only option. Shop suppressors →

Arizona's open desert, long-range culture and strong hunting tradition make it a natural fit for suppressors. Order your silencer from JCM Armory and pick it up at an Arizona FFL.

Are silencers legal in Arizona?

Yes, with a federal-law condition. Arizona lists a device "designed, made or adapted to muffle the report of a firearm" as a prohibited weapon (A.R.S. §13-3101(A)(8)(a)(ii)), but §13-3101(B) says that does not include devices "possessed, manufactured or transferred in compliance with federal law."

Can you hunt with a silencer in Arizona?

Yes. A.R.S. §17-251 says the Game and Fish Commission may not adopt or enforce any rule that prohibits the lawful possession or use of a firearm silencer or muffler, including while hunting. The Commission can still set caliber and ammunition rules.

What Arizona buyers should know

Because Arizona's exemption depends on compliance with federal law, many Arizona buyers choose the voluntary $0 Form 4 so their suppressor is registered and documented. Ask us or your FFL if you're unsure which option fits you.

How buying a silencer from JCM Armory works

Since October 9, 2026, ATF does not enforce Form 4 approval or registration for suppressors. At JCM you pick one of two options (full details in our How to Buy a Silencer Online guide):

Our recommendation for Arizona: Option 2, the voluntary $0 Form 4, because Arizona law ties silencer ownership to federal registration or compliance.

Arizona silencer FAQ

Do I need to register my silencer in Arizona?

Arizona has no state registry, but its law only exempts silencers held "in compliance with federal law." Filing a voluntary $0 Form 4 through JCM gives you federal registration on file.

Can Arizona Game and Fish ban suppressors for hunting?

No. A.R.S. §17-251 bars the Commission from prohibiting lawful silencer use while hunting.

How long does it take to get a silencer in Arizona?

With Option 1 you can usually pick up once it reaches your Arizona FFL and you pass the background check. With Option 2, ATF's Form 4 processing time applies.

Do you ship silencers directly to my house in Arizona?

No. Silencers ship to a licensed Arizona dealer, and you complete the paperwork there.
