Portland, Bangor, Lewiston, Augusta, Bar Harbor or the North Woods: Maine buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a licensed dealer near them. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). Maine has some of the more detailed firearm rules in the country, so please read this page, and check with your dealer, before you order.
How buying a gun online works in Maine
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Maine dealer at checkout. Plan for Maine’s 72-hour wait when you schedule pickup.
- Your FFL receives it. Once we’ve verified your dealer’s license, we ship the gun to their store. We never send firearms to a customer’s home.
- Check, wait and pickup. Show ID, complete ATF Form 4473, and the dealer runs the FBI NICS check. Maine requires a 72-hour wait before delivery.
What to know about firearm transfers in Maine
Background check. Maine dealers use the FBI’s NICS.
72-hour waiting period. Maine’s 2024 law requires a 72-hour wait before a firearm can be delivered. A federal judge blocked it in 2025, but the First Circuit reversed that ruling on April 3, 2026 (Beckwith v. Frey), and on October 19, 2026 the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case. The waiting period is in effect, though the case continues in the lower court.
This is general information, not legal advice. Following federal, state and local law is the buyer’s responsibility, and the rules can change. Your Maine dealer is a good first stop for questions. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in Maine; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits. Last reviewed: October 21, 2026.

Before you order in Maine
Because of Maine’s 72-hour wait, schedule your pickup at least three days after your dealer runs the check. Buyers in Aroostook County and the North Woods should pick a dealer they can get to easily and confirm their hours before checkout. Moose permit holders, deer hunters and bird hunters chasing grouse and woodcock can all find suitable firearms in our catalog. We’ll update this page if the lower court makes further rulings.
Downeast, the Western Mountains and the Midcoast each have their own seasons and game, from Washington County deer to Rangeley-area grouse. Moose permit holders often need a heavier rifle, while upland hunters prefer a light 20-gauge. Choose a Maine dealer you can reach after the three-day wait, and bring a government-issued photo ID with your current address. Optics and accessories ship straight to your home.
Under 25 M.R.S. § 2001-A, adults 21 and over who aren’t prohibited can carry a concealed handgun without a permit, and 18- to 20-year-olds can too if they’re on active duty or honorably discharged veterans of the Armed Forces or National Guard. Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife issues moose permits through an annual lottery, and the 2026 firearms deer season runs November 2 to 28 (no Sunday hunting), so plan orders around those dates and the three-day wait.
