Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud, Bloomington or the North Shore: Minnesota buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a licensed dealer near them. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). Minnesota has some of the more detailed firearm rules in the country, so please read this page, and check with your dealer, before you order.
How buying a gun online works in Minnesota
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Minnesota dealer at checkout. If you’re buying a pistol or a listed semi-automatic rifle, get your permit first.
- Off to your dealer. We keep your FFL’s license on file and ship the firearm to their address. Home delivery of firearms isn’t an option.
- Permit check and pickup. Present your Minnesota permit (for a pistol or listed semi-automatic rifle), complete ATF Form 4473, and the dealer completes the check.
What to know about firearm transfers in Minnesota
Permit for pistols and listed semi-automatics. Minnesota requires a transferee permit (or permit to purchase) to buy a pistol or a semi-automatic military-style assault weapon as defined in state law. Apply through your local police chief or county sheriff; permits are free and valid for one year (Minn. Stat. 624.7131).
Other long guns. Other rifles and shotguns go through the standard dealer background check.
Gun laws differ by state and city and can change. You are responsible for following all federal, state and local laws, and your Minnesota dealer can help with specifics. This overview isn’t legal advice. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in Minnesota; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits. Last reviewed: October 21, 2026.

Before you order in Minnesota
Minnesota permits are free and are issued by the police chief where you live or, outside cities, your county sheriff. They have up to 30 days to decide. A permit to carry can also qualify. Deer hunters in the shotgun zone of southern Minnesota and rifle hunters up north should both check DNR zone maps before ordering. Waterfowlers will find shotguns suited to the prairie potholes and big lakes, and pheasant hunters can find lighter upland guns.
Minnesota buyers in the Twin Cities suburbs can choose from many dealers, while those on the Iron Range or in the Red River Valley may have fewer nearby. Bring your permit and a current photo ID when you pick up a pistol or listed semi-automatic. Ice-fishing season isn’t hunting season, but winter weather can still delay deliveries, so plan accordingly.
