Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Rio Rancho, Roswell, Farmington or the Four Corners: New Mexico buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a licensed dealer near them. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). New Mexico has some of the more detailed firearm rules in the country, so please read this page, and check with your dealer, before you order.
How buying a gun online works in New Mexico
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed New Mexico dealer at checkout. Ask your dealer how they’re currently handling the waiting period.
- Your FFL receives it. Once we’ve verified your dealer’s license, we ship the gun to their store. We never send firearms to a customer’s home.
- Check, wait and pickup. Show ID, complete ATF Form 4473, and the dealer runs the FBI NICS check. New Mexico’s 7-day waiting period generally applies.
What to know about firearm transfers in New Mexico
Background check. New Mexico dealers use the FBI’s NICS. The state also requires background checks for most private sales.
7-day waiting period. New Mexico requires a 7-day wait before a dealer delivers a firearm. In August 2026 a federal court permanently barred enforcement, but only for the two named plaintiffs, and the state appealed in September 2026. For every other buyer, the 7-day wait still applies. This law is being challenged in court and may change; we follow the stricter rule until it’s settled. Ask us before ordering.
Private sales need a check too. Since 2019, New Mexico has required a background check through a licensed dealer for nearly every private gun sale, with exceptions for family members and law enforcement. Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces and Farmington buyers all go through the same state rules.
This is general information, not legal advice. Following federal, state and local law is the buyer’s responsibility, and the rules can change. Your New Mexico dealer is a good first stop for questions. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in New Mexico; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits. Before you order in New Mexico
New Mexico buyers often pair a purchase with a big-game draw. If you drew an elk, oryx or pronghorn tag, order your rifle and optics with enough time for shipping, the background check and the waiting period. Rural buyers in the Four Corners or the southeast should pick a dealer close enough that a second trip isn’t a burden. We’ll update this page if the Tenth Circuit appeal changes the waiting period.
From the Gila to the Sangre de Cristo range, New Mexico buyers shop for many different uses: elk rifles, desert varmint guns, shotguns for dove and quail, and handguns for the range or home. Ammunition and optics ship separately from your firearm and don’t go through the dealer transfer. Ask your dealer about their schedule if you live far from Albuquerque or Las Cruces.
