Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket, Newport, Westerly or South County: Rhode Island buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a licensed dealer near them. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). Rhode Island has some of the more detailed firearm rules in the country, so please read this page, and check with your dealer, before you order.
How buying a gun online works in Rhode Island
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Rhode Island dealer at checkout. Expect a 7-day wait, and confirm the firearm is legal to sell in Rhode Island.
- Direct to the FFL. With your dealer’s license on file, the firearm ships to them. We do not deliver firearms to homes.
- State check, wait and pickup. Show ID and your safety certificate (blue card) for handguns, complete ATF Form 4473 and the state form, and pick up after Rhode Island’s 7-day waiting period.
What to know about firearm transfers in Rhode Island
Waiting period and blue card. Rhode Island requires a 7-day waiting period for firearm purchases. Handgun buyers also need a state firearms safety certificate (blue card).
Assault weapon sale ban. Since July 1, 2026, Rhode Island law (2025-S 0359A) bans the manufacture, sale, purchase and transfer of firearms it defines as “assault weapons,” and the state’s 10-round magazine limit also applies. We found no court order blocking the ban, and a U.S. Supreme Court case set for argument December 2, 2026 could affect it. Treat it as in force: we can’t ship covered firearms to Rhode Island. This law is being challenged in court and may change; we follow the stricter rule until it’s settled. Ask us before ordering.
Please treat this page as general information only. It is not legal advice. Each buyer must comply with federal, state and local law, and laws change over time. Check with your Rhode Island FFL on anything specific. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in Rhode Island; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits. Before you order in Rhode Island
Rhode Island handgun buyers need the blue card, which you get by passing a basic firearms safety test. Plan ahead for it. Rhode Island’s 7-day wait applies to rifles, shotguns and handguns alike, so build that week into your plans. If you’re comparing semi-automatic rifles, check with your dealer first, since many models can’t be transferred since July 1, 2026. Waterfowl and upland hunters can browse our shotgun department, where most models aren’t affected.
Ocean State buyers from Woonsocket to Block Island have a small number of dealers to choose from, so call ahead to confirm hours and transfer availability. Bring your blue card, ID and any other paperwork the dealer requests, then plan your return trip after the 7-day wait. Duck hunters on Narragansett Bay and deer hunters in the western woods will find shotguns and bolt-action rifles that aren’t affected by the 2026 sale ban.
