New York City, Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany or the Adirondacks: New York buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a licensed dealer near them. JCM Armory is a licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in Joppa, Maryland. We ship to local FFLs in 49 states (not California). New York has some of the more detailed firearm rules in the country, so please read this page, and check with your dealer, before you order.
How buying a gun online works in New York
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed New York dealer at checkout. Confirm your license or permit covers what you’re buying before you order, and check that the dealer can receive it.
- Direct to the FFL. With your dealer’s license on file, the firearm ships to them. We do not deliver firearms to homes.
- License check and pickup. Show your ID and the license your purchase needs, complete ATF Form 4473 and the state paperwork, and the dealer completes the background check before transfer.
What to know about firearm transfers in New York
Handguns need a pistol license. Under Penal Law 400.00, a New York pistol/revolver license, issued by your county licensing officer (in New York City, the NYPD), is required to possess a handgun. Each handgun is added to your license.
Semi-automatic rifles need a license too. A semi-automatic rifle license is required to buy or take possession of a semi-automatic rifle.
SAFE Act limits. New York bans the sale of firearms it defines as “assault weapons” and of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Many rifles, pistols and magazines we sell can’t be shipped to New York.
Ammunition checks. Ammunition sales in New York require a state background check through a licensed seller, so ammo must ship to a New York dealer rather than to your home.
Please treat this page as general information only. It is not legal advice. Each buyer must comply with federal, state and local law, and laws change over time. Check with your New York FFL on anything specific. Some items we sell may not be legal to buy in New York; your dealer will not transfer an item that state law prohibits.
