Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney, Bellevue, North Platte or the Sandhills: Nebraska buyers can order from JCM Armory’s online catalog and pick up at a local dealer. As a federal firearms licensee in Joppa, Maryland, we ship guns to licensed dealers in 49 states; California is the one exception.
How buying a gun online works in Nebraska
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Nebraska dealer at checkout. Nebraska handgun buyers should have their handgun purchase certificate or concealed handgun permit ready before the gun arrives.
- Direct to the FFL. With your dealer’s license on file, the firearm ships to them. We do not deliver firearms to homes.
- Paperwork and pickup. At the counter you’ll show ID and fill out ATF Form 4473, and your Nebraska dealer runs the background check. For a handgun, bring your Nebraska handgun purchase certificate or concealed handgun permit. When it comes back approved, the gun is yours.
What to know about firearm transfers in Nebraska
Dealer age limits come from federal law: handgun buyers must be 21, long-gun buyers 18.
Handguns need a certificate or permit. Nebraska requires a handgun purchase certificate to buy or receive a handgun, issued by your local police chief or county sheriff and valid for three years, unless you hold a valid Nebraska concealed handgun permit or another exemption applies. Nebraska’s 2023 permitless carry law (LB 77) did not remove the purchase certificate.
For rifles and shotguns, Nebraska dealers use the FBI’s NICS check.
Please treat this page as general information only. It is not legal advice. Each buyer must comply with federal, state and local law, and laws change over time. Check with your Nebraska FFL on anything specific. Last reviewed: October 2026.

Sandhills and river-bottom hunting
Nebraska ranges from Sandhills grassland to wooded river bottoms along the Platte and Missouri, so one rifle rarely does it all. Deer hunters in the open west may want a flatter-shooting cartridge, while hunters in the eastern river bottoms may favor a handier rifle with a low-power scope.
Popular categories for Nebraska hunters
- Shotguns for pheasant and waterfowl
- Deer and antelope rifles
- Handguns (certificate or permit required)
- AR rifles
- Optics
- Shotshells
Nebraska seasons and permits are managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Check its current guides before you hunt.
Getting your handgun certificate
If you don’t have a Nebraska concealed handgun permit, apply for a handgun purchase certificate through your local police department or county sheriff before ordering a handgun. Once issued, it’s valid statewide for three years, so you can use it for future purchases too.
