How buying a gun online works in Oklahoma
- Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Oklahoma dealer at checkout. From Tulsa gun counters to rural shops out west, Oklahoma has plenty of transfer dealers. Compare fees and make sure they’re open when your package is due.
- Shipped to the shop you picked. We confirm your dealer’s license, then ship the firearm to them. Guns don’t ship to home addresses.
- NICS check and pickup. Show ID and complete ATF Form 4473; your Oklahoma dealer runs the FBI NICS check. Once you’re approved, inspect the firearm and take it home.
What to know about firearm transfers in Oklahoma
Oklahoma dealers send every background check straight to the FBI’s NICS, as Oklahoma isn’t a point-of-contact state. Under federal law you must be 21 to buy a handgun from a dealer, or 18 for a rifle or shotgun.
Oklahoma has no permit-to-purchase or registration, and state law (21 O.S. 1289.24) reserves firearm regulation to the state. Since November 1, 2019, eligible adults 21 and older (or 18 to 20 with qualifying military service) may carry without a license; the Oklahoma handgun license is still issued.
Fort Sill and Tinker AFB. Active-duty service members are residents of the state of their permanent duty station under federal law, so troops at Fort Sill, Tinker, Vance or Altus can buy from an Oklahoma dealer with their orders.

Long shots on open country
Western Oklahoma’s open wheat fields and prairie can stretch shots for deer and coyotes. A flat-shooting cartridge, a scope with a usable reticle and a solid rest make the biggest difference. Learn your rifle’s drop at 200, 300 and 400 yards with your chosen ammo, and practice reading the wind. Oklahoma wind can be relentless, and it moves bullets more than most new long-range shooters expect.
