New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport–Bossier, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe or the bayou country, Louisiana buyers can order from JCM Armory and pick up at a local dealer. As a federal firearms licensee in Joppa, Maryland, we ship guns to licensed dealers in 49 states; California is the one exception.

How buying a gun online works in Louisiana

  1. Pick your firearm and your dealer. Add the gun to your cart and choose a licensed Louisiana dealer at checkout. Louisiana sporting goods stores, pawn shops and gun shops handle transfers; confirm their fee and hours.
  2. We send it to your FFL. Your dealer’s license goes on file with us, then the firearm ships directly to their counter, never to your home.
  3. NICS check and pickup. Show ID and complete ATF Form 4473; your Louisiana dealer runs the FBI NICS check. Once you’re approved, inspect the firearm and take it home.

What to know about firearm transfers in Louisiana

In Louisiana, the FBI’s NICS handles dealer background checks directly; the state is not a point of contact. Buyers must meet the federal dealer ages, 21 for a handgun and 18 for a rifle or shotgun.

Louisiana has no permit-to-purchase or firearm registration. Since July 4, 2024, anyone 18 or older who isn’t prohibited from possessing a firearm may carry a concealed handgun without a permit (Act 1 of the 2024 Second Extraordinary Session); the state concealed handgun permit is still issued and helps with reciprocity.

Border-area buyers. If you live in Texas, Arkansas or Mississippi but work in Louisiana, you’ll need a dealer in your home state for a handgun. Federal law ties handgun transfers to where you live, not where you work.

This page is a general overview, not legal advice. Federal, state and local laws change, and it’s up to each buyer to follow them. When in doubt, ask your Louisiana FFL. Last reviewed: October 2026.

Popular categories for Louisiana hunters and shooters

Louisiana seasons are set by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF). Federal rules require non-toxic shot for migratory waterfowl, so check LDWF’s current regulations before duck season.

Setting up a waterfowl shotgun

Louisiana duck hunters put shotguns through mud, saltwater spray and cold mornings. A semi-auto or pump with a synthetic stock and a corrosion-resistant finish is easier to keep running. Check that your choke tubes are rated for steel or other non-toxic shot, and clean and oil the action after every hunt in the marsh. A sling and a floating gun case are cheap insurance from the blind to the boat.
