We are looking towards offering consignment sales as a service. We are not yet actively doing this, though. We want your input, and if you are interested in consignment sales, we want you to contact us.
We are not a physical brick and mortar location yet. So the one thing that involves our listed home location is gun transfers. The rest of the process involving inventory, sales, and shipping is all happening behind the scenes.
But consignment would definitely be handled a bit different. You’d bring your firearms(s) for inspection, and based on the firearm itself, along with its condition and fair market value, a sale price would be agreed upon with you.
At that point, we’d take your firearm and begin to advertise it for sale. Also, local interested buyers will be able to come appraise the item before they purchase if they so choose.
The advertisement would happen on our website here at JCMArmory.com along with Gunbroker listings, and possibly more. Everything about this would be handled for you. Everything from the advertisement of the gun, showing it off to prospective buyers, any legal wrangling around whether someone can legally purchase the firearm in their state, background checks, and the entire transfer process.
JCMArmory would then, after the sale, receive a part of the sale price determined and agreed upon before we take possession of the firearm. If you change your mind and do not want to sell the firearm, or find your own buyer, or whatever reason you may have, a small fee would be charged just to cover the time it took to advertise the product and set it up for our website. Afterwards, the firearm would be returned to you.
Here is approximately what we expect to charge based on the item being sold:
1 ) All accepted consignment firearms will have a 10% commission fee for JCMArmory when sold
2) A minimum of $50 in commission is also in play, so a gun sold for under $500 will be a flat $50 sale cost rather than 10% of the sale price
3) You may retrieve your gun before sale at any time, but you will be charged a $25 dollar cancellation fee to cover the costs of listing your weapon on Gunbroker (and other costs)
4) If for some reason, JCMArmory is no longer able to sell your weapon, and must return it to you, the fee from #3 is not assessed, and the weapon is returned to you with no fees needing to be paid (example scenario: A weapon is set to become illegal in Maryland, and the legality or logistics of selling it from within Maryland become problematic, so it is returned to you before that can happen)
Additionally, you may decide that you want the weapon cleaned before it is put up for sale. We can do that cleaning for you at your discretion, and the cost of that would be determined at the time of accepting for consigment. That cost would be based on the effort of a thorough cleaning (such as taking the weapon apart), along with the type of gun solvents & oils needed (a much older gun often takes stronger solvents that are more toxic to handle and sometimes more expensive. The extra efforts and PPE used to prevent those toxic solvents from getting onto skin or clothes means it takes more time and skill to properly clean the weapon, thus requiring a higher fee).
This consignment service is in the planning phase. Please contact us here if you are potentially interested in using the service and/or if you have any suggestions about how we should handle this process when we officially implement it.
